Welcome to Second Grade!

Welcome to my second grade friends and their families! I am looking forward to another great year with you. It has been a busy summer with time for play and work. I took a reading class which will help me to enrich our Reading Workshop time this year. I also took time to organize and prepare things for the year ahead. My fun time was reading, fly fishing with my husband, and seeing friends and family. I hope you have been having fun too. See you soon!
Love, Mrs. Howard

Vocabulary Spelling Fun

I have added a link under ‘blogroll’ on the right hand side.  It features some of the vocabulary words we have been talking about during Morning Meeting.  You and your child can visit the site and play games with the vocabulary words.  I will change the words every couple of weeks.  Enjoy!

Morning Meeting

We begin each day with Morning Meeting.  The purpose of this time is to create and maintain a sense of community within our classroom.  This sense of community helps us to learn and grow together throughout the year.  First we come together on the rug and greet each other.  Then we read our morning message to get us ready for things we will do on that day.  Next we fill in parts of our calendar which strengthens our math skills.  Our next activity is sharing.  Three students share each day.  This is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and things that we enjoy doing.  The last part of Morning Meeting is activity.  We like to have fun together and this is a great way to end our Morning Meeting.  Activities we like are Coseeki, Zoom, Aka Baka Soda Cracker, and a song called Down in the Valley.  Morning Meeting lasts about twenty minutes but it is a wonderful way to start each day.
